Arthur Southern Letter From: Barry Hoy Arthur Southern, a Liverpool Collegiate old boy who joined the Collegiate in 1968, has died on the evening of 6th March 2023, passing away suddenly while at home with his wife Marie. Arthur was a lifelong, keen footballer who flitted in and out of the School teams during his time at the Collegiate. He was a well-liked, amiable boy who suffered tragedy whilst at the School when his Mum passed away suddenly when Arthur was 14 years old. Arthur left the School after his GCSEs in 1973 and had a full career working for British Gas before his recent retirement. In more recent times, Arthur actually attended, at my invitation at a COBA Annual dinner in October 2016, and afterwards told me how delighted he had been to sing the school song again! Sadly, we never got the chance to repeat that occasion. Arthur was much loved by family and a very close-knit group of friends in the Huyton area of Liverpool, where he lived his whole life.
He is survived by his wife Marie and their (now grown up) children, Jennifer, and Paul. I personally will miss my friend’s smiling face and amiable nature. Barry Hoy |
