Doug Eaton.

From Derek Corlett 26 April 2023

Sad news. I have just heard from fellow old boy John Morris that Doug sadly died on Monday this week.

I have known Doug for many years and we played in the School soccer team. He kindly volunteered to address our members at an AGM soon after I took over arrangements for our dinners. To say the least he has successfully used his extensive talents and had an interesting and varied career. Whilst at school he formed a pop group called the Detonators with fellow old boys John Morris and Edward Murphy. They reformed about 7 years ago and performed at the Cavern here in Liverpool. Complimentary tickets were provided by Doug for our group. He lived in West Sussex with his family but managed to return for our reunions. On one lunch occasion he entertained us on the piano and this was posted on our website and Facebook sites. A real foot tapping experience.

Latterly Doug had travelled extensively talking to travellers on cruise ships. He would talk expertly on a whole range of topics.

A real loss to us and he will be sadly missed and another fine pupil from Collegiate.

Many thanks for the news, Derek, even though the news is extremely sad. As I think you know, Douglas was Captain of the very successful 1955 Championship winning cricket team at West Derby C of E School including me as a 9 year old (pic available if you need it). I remember it well, to this day. Douglas and his brother Roger and family lived very close to us (they on Town Row, we on Norris Green Road). I remember the times fondly.

You will have known him far better in later years and your contacts will be more vivid - as I’m sure will those of many of the other Old Boys. He’ll be missed, for sure.

 Sad news indeed.
